Jammu defeats Udhampur in inaugural tie, enters in next stage

JAMMU, Aug 28: Inter District Divisional Level Tournament in the discipline of cricket, being organised by Department of Youth Services and Sports was played at different venues.
SAMBA: Inter District Divisional Level Cricket Tournament for under-14 boys commenced at Raja Suchet Singh Stadium, here today. Minister for Industries and Commerce Chander Parkash Ganga was the chief guest on the occasion, who inaugurated the tournament.
Players of all the 8 districts–Samba, Kathua, Udhampur, Reasi, Doda, Poonch, Ramban and Jammu are taking part in the tournament.
Additional SP Samba Raja Hamid, DySP Samba Virinder Singh, BJP District President Yangveer Singh Chicku, Senior BJP leader Sanjeev Padha, many prominent persons and cricket lovers were also present on the occasion.
The inaugural match of the tournament was played between Jammu and Udhampur, which was won by Jammu by 6 wickets. Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Udhampur made 60 runs by losing all wickets in 20 overs. Udhay Partap made 14 runs, Saksham scored 7 runs, while Rajveer and Liaqat Ali, scored 5 runs each.
From Jammu side, Arin Sharma and Yuvraj scalped two wickets each, while Aditya Abrol and Dhruv took one wicket apiece.
In the second inning, Jammu chased the target in 16.4 overs by losing 4 wickets. Aditya Abrol was the top scorer with 17 runs, while Dhruv made 16 runs and Achintya scored 10 runs.
From Udhampur side, Udhay Partap and Aditya scalped one wicket each.
KATHUA: Jammu emerged overall winner in the Inter District Division Level Cricket Tournament for under-17 girls, which was played at Sports Stadium, here today. 44 players of three Districts–Kathua, Samba and Jammu participated in the tournament.
Earlier, in the first league match, Jammu trounced Kathua by 10 runs. Batting first, Kathua made 38 runs in stipulated 10 overs by losing 5 wickets. In reply, Jammu achieved the target in 3.4 overs without losing any wicket. Sonika of Jammu made 23 runs in 13 deliveries with the help of 4 boundaries and Nancy scored 7 runs with the help of a boundary.
In the second match, Jammu defeated Samba by 10 runs. Batting first, Samba scored paltry 18 runs by losing all wickets. The target was easily achieved by Jammu just in 2.3 overs without losing any wicket. Isha of Jammu clinched 5 wickets in 2 overs by giving only 2 runs and Nancy Gill of Jammu took 3 wickets in 2 overs by giving 5 runs.
Kathua crushed Samba by 6 runs in a nail biting third league match. Batting first, Kathua set a target of 48 runs in 10 overs by losing 9 wickets and in reply Samba failed to chase the target in prescribed 10 overs and made 42 runs.
