J&K scripts solitary goal win in opener; Delhi drubs Chandigarh

JAMMU, Feb 6: Jammu and Kashmir football team began the campaign in a positive note in the prestigious 70th National Football Championship Santosh Trophy 2016 as they registered a solitary goal win over formidable Uttar Pradesh at GGM Science College Football ground, here today.
The Championship was declared open by the chief K Rajendra Kumar, Director General Police (DGP), J&K in an impressive, colourful and well attended function, while Ajeet Angral, Principal GGM Science College, Dr SP Vaid (ADGP), Dilbag Singh (ADGP), Navin Agarwal (ADGP) and NA Khan were the guests of honour.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were the office bearers of Jammu and Kashmir Football Association- Zamir Thakur, Mr Hameed, RK Kohli, Surinder Singh Bunty, Dr. Nirmolak Singh, Shafi Nari, Fiyaz Ahmad, Fiestas Sotra, S Kuldeep Singh, Suresh Gupta, Mohan Lal, SM Gill, Ramesh Kumar, David Masih, Yousuf Don, Bishwa Mitter, Satpal Singh, Narinder Gupta and International footballer Arun Malhotra.
Earlier, in the first match, Delhi defeated Chandigarh by one goal to nil (1-0). The goal scorer for Delhi was Abhishek Rawat who netted the goal in 27th minute. The yellow cards were shown to Shubham Kumar of Chandigarh and Harish Singh and Dhuraj Jang of Delhi.
In another match of the day, which was the opener for the hosts Jammu and Kashmir,  a brilliant goal scored by Gautam Meher in the 70th minute of the match helped J&K to script a solitary goal win over Uttar Pradesh.
The matches were officiated by Tejas Nagvenicar, Imran Sheikh, Buhai Soren, Nasirruddin, Paramanad Mandnekar, Dipu Roy and Akash Jackson
In tomorrow’s fixture, Haryana will take on Uttarakhand at 10 am, while Punjab will lock horns with Himachal Pradesh at 2 pm.
