J&K eves seal berth in finals; boys lose to AIIB in QFs

JAMMU, Mar 29: Defeating Vidharbha comfortably in the semifinals, the Jammu and Kashmir women team sealed berth in the finals of the ongoing 24th Federation Cup Tennis Ball Cricket Championship at MA Stadium, here today.
Now, J&K eves will face their counterparts from Jharkhand in the finals at the same venue tomorrow.
In the men’s section, J&K boys lost to All India Industrial Board (AIIB) in the last pool match, which was virtually a quarterfinal and failed to make it to the last four stage.
The semifinals line up has been drawn in the men’s section with Goa, Jharkhand, Odisha and AIIB making it to the last four stage.
Earlier, in women’s semifinal, J&K defeated Vidharbha by a big margin of 34 runs. Batting first, J&K scored a decent total of 72 runs. Bismah (28*) and Ruksara (21) were the main contributors. Sheeraza also chipped in with 12 runs and Nadia score unbeaten 3. Monika and Sakshi took one wicket each for Vidharbha.
In reply, Vidharbha bundled out for a paltry total of 38 runs, thus lost the match by 34 runs. Divya was the top scorer with unbeaten 26 runs, while no other batswomen could cross the double figure mark. For J&K, Bisma and Sapna Jamwal took 3 and 2 wickets respectively.
In another semifinals in women section, Jharkhand defeated AIIB by 6 wickets to make it to the finals.
In other matches of the women section today, Uttar Pradesh defeated Uttarakhand by 5 wickets, J&K lost to AIIB by 8 wickets, Vidharbha defeated Jharkhand by 13 runs, Vidharbha drubbed Purvanchal by 6 wickets,
In men’s section today, AIIB defeated Uttar Pradesh by 5 wickets, Uttar Pradesh got better of Purvanchal by a narrow margin of 2 runs, Odisha prevailed over Uttarakhand by 8 wickets, J&K thrashed Purvanchal by 25 runs, Odisha trounced AIIB by 10 runs, Jharkhand Vidharbha by 53 runs, Jharkhand outplayed Delhi by 8 wickets, Jharkhand defeated Tamil Nadu by 5 wickets, Goa got better of Vidharbha by 4 wickets, Tamil Nadu defeated Delhi by 17 runs, Uttrakhand outclassed Purvanchal by 5 wickets, Odisha defeated J&K by 16 runs, AIIB prevailed over J&K by 11 runs and Goa defeated Maharashtra and Delhi.
The organising committee includes Farooq Ahmed Salroo, Rajesh Dhar, Bal Krishan Tickoo, Mushtaq Ahmed Turkey, Nazir Ahmed Wani, Manjeet Singh, Sadiq Hussain Malik, Madan Mohan, Suresh Singh and Gurvinder Singh.
