J&K holds Uttrakhand to 3-3 draw, enters QF’s; 6 teams register wins

JAMMU, Dec 10: After holding Uttrakhand to 3-3 draw, Jammu and Kashmir entered quarterfinals of the ongoing 61st All India Police Hockey Championship, being organized by Jammu and Kashmir Police Department at KK Hakhu Astroturf Stadium, here.
For J&K, Gurjeet Singh was the star performer who scored all the three goals, while Manoj Singh pelted 2 goals for Uttrakhand and Pankaj Kumar netting one.
Earlier, in the first match of the day, Chhatisgarh defeated Puducherry by a big margin of 9 goals (10-1) in an easy contest. Josh Toppo scored maximum 5 goals for Chhattisgarh, while Sandeep Kujur netted 2 goals and Laxman Yadav and Subodh Kumar scored one goal each. S Suresh was the goal scorer for Puducherry.
In another match, Bihar drubbed Rajasthan by seven goals to two (7-2). For Bihar, Samuel Guria, Belas Lakra and Patras Tiru netted 2 goals each, while Jayaprakash Mundu scored one goal. Jai Singh and Harish Kumar were the goal scorers for Rajasthan, who scored one goal each.
Maharashtra got better of Madhya Pradesh by nine goals to one (9-1) in a one-sided contest. Satyajeet Sawant and Vinod Mangude scored 3 goals each for Maharashtra, while Kunal Jagdale, Sumit Mohite and Mukund Rajput netted one goal each. Ruben Kujur was the solitary goal scorer for Madhya Pradesh.
In another match, SSB thrashed Manipur by sixteen goals to one (16-1) in a one-sided affair. Joy Chandra Singh and Kishore Lakra pelted 4goals each for SSB, while Arif Ansari, Santi Kumar Sharma and Pardip Kumar scored 2 goals each and K Naocha Singh and Ajit Singh netted one each. For Manipur, Purna Chandra scored the lone goal.
In a tough contest, ITBP prevailed upon Haryana by four goals to three (4-3). Suresh Kumar, Jasvinder Singh, Amit Ekka and Puneet Kumar were the goal scorers for ITBP, while Ajay Kumar, Jitender and Pradeep netted goals for Haryana.
The matches were officiated by Virender Kumar, Vijay Kishore, Jagjit Singh Reen, Imtiaz-Ud-din, VP Sharma, Tabrez Sher, Anil Kumar, Naved Zia, Mohd Ameen and Sanjay Bhatia.
Prominent among those who witnessed today’s matches were ADGP K Rajendra Kumar, organizing secretary of the tournament, DIG’s T Punchok, Johny Williams and JP Singh, SSP’s Vijay Singh Sambyal, Sham Sunder and TD Saini, general secretary Hockey J&K Rumal Singh, president All India Police Sports Control Board, Tournament Director Ranjit Kanwar and Observer VK Kohli.
In tomorrow’s fixture, Punjab will take on West Bengal, Karnataka will lock horns with CRPF, Uttar Pradesh will face Chhatissgarh, BSF will meet Bihar, Maharashtra will face SSB and CISF will take on Andhra Pradesh.
