Iqbal Sports, DFA Ganderbal among eight teams register win, advance to next stage

SRINAGAR, June 18: Iqbal Sports and DFA Ganderbal were among the eight teams, which have registered wins and qualified for the next stage of the ongoing State Football Championship, being organised by J&K State Sports Council and J&K Bank Limited at Bakshi Stadium and Polo Ground, here today.
In the first match of the day, Iqbal Sports defeated Jehlum Sports Club by three goals to zero.
In the first half, Bilal of Iqbal Sports netted the first goal of the match in the 4th minute and put a lead on the opponent team. Showkat of Iqbal Sports with his excellent footwork scored the goal in the 15th minute, which Jehlum Sports Club failed to equalize and the first half ended with 2-0 goals. In the second half, players of Jehlum Sports Club strived hard to equalize the match, but their dreams shattered, when Shabir of opponent team netted the goal in the 40th minute and raised the score card to 3-0 goals.
The players of Jhelum Sports Club were looking dominated at the hands of Iqbal Club and thus lost the match with 3-0 goals.
In the second match, Kashmir United Football Club smashed DFA Ganderbal by 2-1 goals. Rouf and Javaid of Kashmir United netted the goals in the 11th and 56th minute respectively. Amir was the lone scorer for DFA Ganderbal.
The third match was played between J&K Bank Academy and DFA Shopian, former registered win 2 goals to zero (2-0). Salman Hassan and Aqib Mushtaq netted the goal in the 27th and 30th minutes.
In the fourth match, Maharaja Sports registered 2-0 goals victory over DFA Bandipora. In the first half, players of both the team played well and restricted each other from netting the goal and the first half ended with no goal. In the second half, Ishafaq from Maharaj Sports cracked the goal in 45th minute, whereas Irfan doubled lead in 72nd minute and paved way for Maharaja Sports to advance to next stage.
In the fifth match, Fill Arafat Football Club defeated Rahim Green Solina Football Club by 3-1 goals. For Fill Arafat Football Club, Imran, Mudasir and Zuhaib netted the goals in the 21st, 28th and 60th mintutes respectively, whereas from Rahim Green Solina Football Club Irfan was the lone scorer.
In the sixth match, DFA Baramulla XI defeated Kashmir Mughals via tie-breaker with 6-5 goals.
The seventh match was played between PDC Blue XI and DFA Anantnag, in which former registered win.
In the eighth match, AG’s Office football team thrashed Food and Supplies football team by solitary goal. Khalid Qayoom netted the goal in the 73rd minute.
