Int’l Water Sports Centre to have state of art facilities: Nuzhat Gull

BASOHLI, June 10: Secretary J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gull today visited Plahi Village in Basohli to finalize the site of the proposed International Water Sports Centre. She also visited the upcoming Sports Stadium at Village Pathiyara (Basohli) and took stock of ongoing work. She also announced that a Boxing cum Wrestling Training Centre will also be constructed near the Sports Stadium to enhance the talent of local youth for which 10 kanals of land has been identified.
Col Mahan Singh, District Development Council (DDC) Chairperson Kathua accompanied the Sports Secretary at both the aforesaid sites.
Nuzhat Gull, while speaking on the occasion, said that there is already a Water Sports Centre with the state of art facilities at Nehru Park, Dal lake in Srinagar and she would like the upcoming water sports facility in Basohli to be having all those facilities here too. She asserted that this upcoming Water Sports facility will be augmented with latest standard facilities so that it is at par with other International facilities across the globe. She said that those sports persons visiting Basohli for participating in sports events shall be the ambassadors for J&K and spread the positive word with fellow sports fraternity and other people across the country.
Later the DDC Chairperson said that Basohli has a great potential for Water and Adventures sports besides other conventional sports and he will leave no stone unturned in transforming the area into a sports paradise. He said many youth from Basohli have recently proved their mettle by participating in the national and international sports events and the proposed facilities coming up in the area will further boost skill and talent.
Col. Mahan Singh thanked PM Narendra Modi and Union MoS PMO Dr Jitendra Singh for the projects sanctioned for this remote area and impressed upon them to initiate measures for promotion of tourism in this area which has a charming scenic beauty to attract tourists. He said that this would also generate employment in District Kathua, especially its Pahari region.
Meanwhile, the Secretary Sports Council Nuzhat Gull assured the DDC Chairperson as well as the people of the area that she would ensure development of more than a dozen playfields in various blocks of Kathua during this very financial year.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Sushma Jamwal BDC Kathua, Sarpanch Bholi Devi and Sarpanch Madhu Bala.
