Interactive session on UN 17 SDGs held

JAMMU, Sept 23: As a part of 12 days UN campaign from Peace to Non-Violence,  Red Cross Unit of Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar in collaboration with Gandhi Global Family (GGF) under the aegis of United Nations Centre (UNIC) New Delhi organized an interactive session on United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals here today.
Eminent Gandhian Padmashiri S.P. Varma, Vice President Gandhi Global Family- a UNDPI organization partnering with UN for promotion of UN SDGs from 2016 to 2030, who was chief guest on the occasion, in his keynote speech detailed the students about the 17 different UN Sustainable Development Goals to transform the world.
He emphasized upon the students and youth to know, adopt, practice and promote these goals to make real difference in the lives of the people of world while acting more locally.  Varma underlined that only the spirit of one humanity, empathy and peaceful co-existence of all can uproot hatred, intolerance and violence from our world. Since whole world is looking towards the ideology of our father of nation, Mahatma Gandhi, to bring sustainable peace and development on globe, we (Indians) being successors of this apostle of peace, have greater responsibility to keep intact his dream of nation and world, he added.
On the occasion, the students also gave suggestions for bringing sustainable peace in State following the footsteps of Mahatma Gandhi.
A quiz on United Nations and world peace was also organized and winners were presented UN Souvenirs.
Earlier, Dr. Ashaq Malik, Co-ordinator of Red Cross in College was also present.
