JAMMU, May 16: A week-long Inter-School Zonal Level Sports competitions-cum-trials for under-14 and under-17 boys and girls concluded at Indoor Stadium Akhnoor. The event was organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, Zone Akhnoor.
The competitions were held in Volleyball, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Chess, Yoga, Table Tennis, Cricket, Badminton, Basketball, Football and Wrestling disciplines. Around 1,820 students from Government and private educational institutions of Zone Akhnoor participated enthusiastically in the tournament, as per handout issued.
In major team events of boys under-14 category, GMS Daskal defeated GHS Sunail in Kabaddi, GHS Sunail won the Kho-Kho title by defeating GHS Kotli Tanda and GHS Kot Garhi clinched the Volleyball title against GHS Barui. In boys Under-17 category, GHSS Narrari Bala emerged winner in Kabaddi, GHS Sunail secured the Kho-Kho title and APS Akhnoor won the Volleyball event.
Among girls Under-14 teams, GHS Mera Mandrian won the Kabaddi title, GHS Sunail emerged victorious in Kho-Kho and APS Akhnoor secured the Volleyball championship. In girls Under-17 category, GGHSS Akhnoor clinched the Kabaddi title, Chander Bhaga HSS won the Kho-Kho event and APS Akhnoor emerged winner in Volleyball.
During the closing ceremony, the ZPEO Akhnoor congratulated the organising and technical committees for the successful conduct of the competitions. All the matches were officiated by Jatinder Singh, Ashnak Raj Sharma, Rahul Dev, Shambu Dutt, Khadim Hussain, Rajesh Kumar, Gurmukh Singh, Vijay Kumar, Suram Singh, Sushma Devi and Rinku Kumar.
