SAMBA, Apr 24: The Department of Youth Services and Sports District Samba organized Inter School District Level Sqay Martial Art Championship at Humanity Public High School, Bassi Kalan, Bari Brahmana, here today.
Forty students drawn from all over the district participated in the tournament.
The tournament was inaugurated by the District Officer, Subash Chander Bhardwaj and Gaurav Charak, Principal of the School.
Vijay Singh, B D Sharma and Rakesh Kumari were present on the occasion.
The Championship was held under the guidance of Director General DYSS J&K, NavIn Agarwal.
Principal while addressing the participants asked the students to have more stress on the games as the games are also necessary for the development of student.
The gold medalists included Vikas (Nav Vidya Dhalote), Amit Chandel (Nav Vidya Dhalote), Abhishek (MI Sumb), Ajay Singh (Nav Vidya Vidya Dhalote), Neeraj Singh (Nav Vidya Dhalote), Kapil Singh (M I Sumb) and Vishal Singh (MI Sumb) in 25 kg, 29 kg, 33 kg, 37 kg, 41 kg, 45 kg and above 45 kg respectively.
The officials present on occasion were Anirudh Singh Slathia, Raj Singh Chib, I/c Activity Rekha, Kiran Bala, Suman Lata Sharma, Zorawar Singh Sambyal, Hardeep Singh, Dalbir Singh and Mohinder Kumar (Coach).
Meanwhile, the Department also organized a basketball tournament at Kristu Jyoti Convent High School Samba.
The Tournament was inaugurated by Sister Shalom, Principal of Kristu Jyoti Convent School, while the District Officer, Subash Chander Bhardwaj was also present on the occasion.
In the final match, Army Public School B D Bari defeated Rich Harvest High School by 8 points. The players from APS BD Bari including Saransh, Aditiya Khajuria and Amritya and from Rich Harvest School Abhinandan, Robin Singh and Abhey Salotra displayed superb performance.
