JAMMU, Oct 18: The Inter-District State Level Cricket Tournament for Under-19 boys commenced today at Sports Stadium, Kathua and GDC Kathua ground, under the banner of Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS).
The 4-day long tournament is being organized under the overall supervision of DYSS Officer, Samba, Subhash Chander Bhardwaj.
In all 16 teams from various districts of the State are participating in the knock out competition.
The tournament was declared open by chief guest, Pushap Kant Rao, vice-principal, GDC Kathua. ZPEO, Kewal Krishan was also present on the occasion.
The inaugural match was played between Ganderbal and Anantnag districts in which Ganderbal emerged winner. Winning the toss Ganderbal elected to bat first and made a total of 162 runs in 20 overs at the loss of 6 wickets. Shabir Ahmed made 42 runs of 23 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes. For district Anantnag, Ubaid bowled very well and took one wicket by giving 29 runs in 4 overs.
In reply, the Anantnag managed to score only 155 runs in stipulated 20 overs by losing 7 wickets and thus lost the match by 7 runs. Junaid scored highest 86 runs in 62 balls for Anantnag.
The 2nd match was played between Reasi and Poonch districts. Reasi won the toss and elected to bat first. Batting first, it scored only 80 runs for the loss of 10 wickets. Only Satnam and Rajat reached a double figure, who scored 15 and 12 runs, respectively for their team. For Poonch, Gurjot took 3 wickets in his 3 overs’ spell by giving just 14 runs. Sajid also took 2 important wickets in his 4 overs by giving 24 runs.
In reply, Poonch district achieved the target by losing just 4 wickets. Sohail made 44 runs in 41 balls with 5 boundaries and 1 six.
The matches were officiated by Jai Paul Singh, Parbat Singh, Mohan Lal, Sandeep Singh, Mohinder Kumar, Ram Lawya, Kulvir Singh and Kranti Khajuria.
