KATHUA, Aug 2: Government Degree College Kathua organized an inter-college singing, debating and essay writing competition, here today.
Deputy Commissioner, Rahul Pandey was the chief guest on the occasion. The programme began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries followed by Saraswati Vandana. The formal welcome address was given by Prof Sumanesh Jasrotia, Principal, GDC Kathua who outlined the purpose and structure of the event.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest complimented the organizers of the event. He congratulated the winners, runners up, participants and stressed on the need of participation more than winning. He talked about ‘Har Ghar Tiranga Programme’ and encouraged everybody to proactively participate which would be a correct homage to our forefathers who laid down their lives for the nation.
Students from different colleges across the district participated in the three competitions which were judged by teams of judges constituted for the competitions.
The singing competition was judged by team of Prof Romila Guleria, Dr Surekha and Dr Rachna, while the debating competition was judged by Dr Arun Dev Singh, Dr Shub Kumar and Prof Pawan Kumar and the essay writing competition was judged by Prof Anoop Sharma, Dr Kher Singh and Dr Chetna Gupta.
First position in the category of singing was given to Aman Jasrotia of GDC Kathua, while 2nd position went to Rakhi Devi, GCW Kathua. The 1st prize of debate competition was awarded to Sumit Badial, GDC Basohli and 2nd prize was given to Preeti Mandhal, GCW Kathua, besides the first prize of essay writing competition was awarded to Neha Kumari, GDC Kathua and the 2nd prize was given to Sukriti Badwal of GDC Billawar.
The event was appraised by the senior faculty members including Prof Jasvinder Singh, Prof Rakesh Singh and Dr Rachna, while the event’s comparing was done by Dr Eva Sharma and Prof Rakhi Malhotra.
Dr. Seema Malpotra, Convener Literary Activities Committee and H.O.D English convened the event with the support of committee members including Prof Raj Kiran, Prof Sandeep Choudhary, Dr Anupma Arora, Dr Shub Kumar, Dr Chetna Gupta, Dr Ambica, Dr Upasana Andotra, Prof Manmohan Singh, Dr Amita Dua, Dr Rachna (Psychology) Dr Eva Sharma, Dr Nitasha Baloria and Prof Rakhi Malhotra.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Anupma Arora.
