Inter-collegiate competition gets underway at JU

JAMMU, Nov 11: Inter-collegiate Championship in Fencing, Boxing, Handball and other disciplines, organised by Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu got underway at University of Jammu, here today.
In the ongoing championship various Boxing bouts of different categories were organised.
In 46-48 kg category, Naresh Kumar of GDC Samba defeated Vinod of GDC Kunjwani and Mohd Aarif from GDC Jindrah trounced Rehitpal from Rajouri, whereas in 48-51 kg, Aman Sharma of PG Department beat Vishal Sharma of GDC Kathua and Ankit Sharma of GDC Bhargava got better of Deepak Kumar of GDC Samba and in 51-54 kg, Aryan Sharma of GDC Udhampur trounced Raman Singh of GDC Samba & Harish Kumar of GDC Hiranagar beat Mohd Izman of GDC Poonch, besides in 54-57 kg, Sahil Salotra of GDC Kathua defeated Nitin Singh of GDC Rajouri & Ankush of GDC Udhampur beat Kunal Sharma of MIET, Jammu.
In 57-60 kg, Harish Sharma of GDC Akhnoor defeated Aman Sharma of MIET Jammu and Dheeraj Partap of GDC Samba trounced Aman Bhau of GDC Marh.
The bouts were officiated by Sandeep Singh Chib, Hardesh Singh, Anshuman Khajuria, Goutam Sharma, Gagan Kumar, Harinderpal Singh and Inder Singh.
In Handball, the final matches will be played between PG Department and GDC Udhampur in the men’s section while PG Department will also lock horns with GCW Udhampur in women’s section on tomorrow.
In quarterfinal matches (men), GDC Udhampur beat GDC Kunjwani by 19-7, while GDC Poonch got better of MIET Jammu by 12-02 and PG Department defeated GDC Akhnoor by 8-7, whereas in semi-finals matches (men), GDC Udhampur trounced GDC Poonch by 15-10 and PG Department got better of GDC RS Pura by 15-01.
In semi-finals matches (Women), GCW Udhampur beat GDC Udhampur by 9-5 and PG Departments defeated GCW Parade by 12-0.
The matches were officiated by the technical panel of experts including Sudesh Kumar, Vinay Sharma, Karun Magotra, Vipen Photra, Gourav Sharma and Priya Devi.
In Fencing sabre team (women), GDC Reasi team comprising of Palak Bharti, Riya Manhas, Simran Rajput & Anshika Bandral won gold medal, while PG Department Jammu University’s team namely Jaspreet Kour, Diksha Sharma, Balwinder Kaur & Saheen Akhter clinched silver and GDC Kakryal team comprising of Roshani Devi, Meena Sharma & Janvi Sharma bagged bronze besides, GCW Parade team namely Mokshika Rana, Pihu Raagini, Akshita Sharma & Pragi Sharma also secured bronze medal.
In men section (foil), team of GDC Reasi namely Gourav Thakur, Parshant Chib, Parvinder Sharma and Surya Dev Singh clinched gold medal, while GDC Kunjwani team comprising Sawan Mangotra, Ritish Kotwal, Taranjeet Singh & Ajay Sambyal won silver and GDC Samba team comprising of Sourav Choudhary, Satwinder Singh, Vivek Sahotra & Akshit Sharma clinched bronze medal, besides GDC Paloura team namely Sahil Kumar, Ajay Sharma, Harsh Anand and Randeep Singh clinched bronze medal.
In epee (men), Harsh Singh, Gaurav Thakur, Parvinder Sharma and Ashutosh Sharma of GDC Reasi won gold medal, while Ritesh Kotwal Sawan Mangotra, Taranjeet Singh & Ajay Sambyal of GDC Kunjwani team got silver and Atul Sharma, Vivek Sharma and Mohit Sharma of GDC Billawar team clinched bronze medal, besides Gaurav Sharma, Arun Singh, Jaspreet Singh and Abishak Kumar of GDC Paloura won bronze medal.
In sabre (men), Harsh Dev Singh, Gurusewak Singh, Harsh Anand & Vishwat Singh of GDC Paloura won gold medal, while Atul Sharma, Mohit Sharma, Vivik Sharma of GDC Billawar secured silver and Suraj Dev Singh, Ashutosh Sharma, Prashant Chib & Harsh Singh of GDC Reasi team clinched bronze, besides Kamran Naik, Danish Singh & Vishal Verma won bronze medal.
