Inter-Collegiate Basketball, Chess Tournaments get underway

JAMMU, Sept 24: Inter-Collegiate Basketball (M&W) Tournaments 2018-19, being organized by the Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu got underway at the University Basketball Court, University of Jammu, here today.
In men’s section, total three matches were played nad in the first match, Dogra Law College defeated MBS College by 29-18, while in other matches, GDC Kathua beat GDC Samba by 34-10 and MAM College outplayed GDC Hiranagar by 33-24.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Ramesh Magotra, Raj Kumar Bakshi, Jai Bharat, Ravish Vaid, S. Harinderpal Singh, Vikas Karlopia, Anu Radha, Raghav Sharma, Amit Pandoh, S. Charanjeet Singh, Neelam Chalotra and Hans Raj Sharma.
The Tournament is being played under the overall supervision of Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu.
Meanwhile, Inter-Collegiate Chess (M&W) Championship 2018-19 organized by the Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu commenced at its Indoor Hall, here.
Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Director Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu declared open the Championship after a brief introduction with the participants from the various Colleges of Jammu province in the presence of Dr Brij Baloria, Ramesh Magotra, SP Sharma, Sushil Sawhney, PD Singh (In-charge Tournament), Sanjeev Jamwal, Vikram Jamwal, Anil Kumar, Rakesh Meenia, Dr Saleem Ahmed, Raj Kumar Bakshi, Jai Bharat, Jatinder Singh, Mohd Alyas, Sudesh Bhagat, Yuvraj Singh, Ravinder Singh, Prof Parveen Sharma, Prof Hans Raj Sharma, Rahul Gupta and Amit Pandoh.
In women’s section, MIET Team beat GDC Mendhar by 2.5-1.5 points, while in men’s section, GCET Jammu defeated GDC Reasi by 4-0 points, IMS Patoli beat Trikuta Degree College by 3-1 points and MIET beat GDC Mendhar by 4-0 points.
The pre-quarter final matches will be played at 10 am and 1 pm for women and men section respectively tomorrow.
