JAMMU, Sept 8: Inter-Collegiate Badminton (Men & Women) Tournament 2015-16 got underway at Gymnasium Hall, University of Jammu, here today.
Prof. Dhian S. Bhau, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu inaugurated the tournament and encouraged the participants to play in a true spirit of sports for fair and healthy competition.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Narayani Jamwal, Physical Director, GDC Paloura, Dr. Mohinder Sharma, Incharge GDC Kathua, Prof Shafqat Jahangir, Inchage GDC Udhampur, Sudesh Bhagat, Physical Director, GCW Udhampur, Raj Kumar Bakshi and Jai Bharat.
Earlier, in the first match, Govt. SPMR College of Commerce drubbed Trikuta Degree College by 3-0. In singles, Amandeep Singh beat Arjun Bhau by 21-6, 21-2 and Kshitij beat Abhishek Singh by 21-11, 21- 4, while in doubles, Aunil and Amandeep beat Abhishek and Mohit 21-06, 21-07 and GDC Hiranagar trounced GDC RS Pura by 3-0. In singles, Dheeraj Sharma beat Sahil Sharma by 21-9, 21-07 and Sourabh Jasrotia outplayed Sahil Tajoria by 21-06, 21-07, while in doubles, Dheeraj and Rohit drubbed Prince and Sahil by 21-07, 21-04. GDC Rajouri got walkover from GDC Thanamandi, ASCOMS got walkover against Govt. College of Education, I.D.S. Sehora got walkover against GDC Doda and P.G. Department got walkover against GCET.
In women’s section, IDS Sehora beat GDC Paloura by 2-0. Keerat Preet Kour got better of Dechen Chuskit by 21-06, 21-03, while in doubles, Keerat Preet Kour and Aditi Sadotra beat Deepa Devi and Shilpa Bali by 21 -05, 21-05. GDC Udhampur got walkover from GDC R.S. Pura and GDC Hiranagar, GCW Parade got walkover from GDC Mendhar and GDC Kathua got walkover from GCET Jammu.
The matches were officiated by Vikram Jamwal, Taranpal Singh, Manmohan Sharma, Pushap Thakur and Ankit Sharma, while he Tournament was conducted by Ravish Vaid, Incharge Badminton, University of Jammu.
Meanwhile in Inter-Collegiate Kho-Kho Tournament, GDC Samba beat GDC Udhampur by 8 points ( 12-04). The match was officiated by Anil Sharma, Anil Kumar, Ankush Sharma, Mohd, Israr, Sachin, and Gagan Kumar.
In Inter-Collegiate Basketball (Men) Tournament, G.D.C Paloura beat ASCOMS in the inaugural match, while GDC Udhampur beat GDC Hiranagar by 26-21 points and GGM Science College and Commerce College got walkover against Trikuta Degree College and GCET Jammu respectively.
Narayani Jamwal, Ajaz Malik, Raj Kumar and Vikas Karlopia were present on the occasion.
The matches were officiated by Aman Sharma, Harpreet Singh, Rajesh Bhagat, Sumit Dogra and Manoj Kumar, while the matches were conducted under the supervision of Vikas Karlopia, Incharge, Basketball Tournament.
