KOLKATA, June 22:
The Indian paddlers crashed out of the ongoing Japan Open Super Series event at Yokohoma as both Achanta Sharath Kamal and Soumyajit Ghosh bowed out in the men’s singles events on Saturday.
Though Sharath Kamal managed to enter the pre-quarterfinals, beating Lee Chia Sheng of Taipei 4-2, he went down to World No. 9 and second-seeded Wang Liquin of China in straight games of 5-11, 7-11, 3-11, 2-11 in less than 20 minutes.
Earlier, Ghosh lost in the round of 32 to Taipei’s Chen Chien-An 1-4. The Taipei paddler, ranked 28 in the world, beat the Indian 9-11, 11-3, 14-12, 11-4, 11-4.
The doubles pair of Soumyajit Ghosh and Harmeet Desai failed to progress beyond the quarterfinals stage as the duo lost to the Japanese pair of Jin Ueda and Maharu Yoshimura 6-11, 6-11, 9-11. (UNI)
