Indian among members of selection panel for Templeton Award

DEHRADUN, Jul 23: The Pro-Vice Chancellor of a Haridwar-based university has been appointed as a member of the selection committee for the Templeton Award, the most prestigious international honour in the field of spirituality.
Chinmay Pandya, Pro-VC of Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya was appointed as a member of the selection committee by John Templeton Foundation recently, a university press release said here today.
The Templeton Award is given to a living person for exceptional contribution to affirming life’s spiritual dimension, through insights, discovery or practical work.
Heather Templeton Dill (grand daughter of John Templeton), the current director of the foundation, says that her grandfather after whom the award has been named, felt that spirituality is the highest realm for uplifting humanity.
Sir John Marks Templeton was an American-born British investor, fund manager, and philanthropist.
Presented annually since 1973, five Indians have been honoured with this award, including former President of India Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, Mother Teresa, the Dalai Lama, Baba Amte and Pandurang Shastri Athavale.
Pandya will be a member of the nine-member selection committee for the next three years, the release added. (PTI)
