JAMMU, Nov 12: Mohd. Imran Para, a visually impaired judoka from the Blind and Para Judo Association of Jammu & Kashmir, brought glory to India by winning a Bronze Medal in the team event at the IBSA Asian Para Judo Championship, held in Astana, Kazakhstan from November 3 to 10.
Trained under Suraj Bhan Singh, chief Judo Coach of the J&K Sports Council since 2018, Imran has consistently excelled, having already won three gold and one silver in Para National Championships. A student of the Residential School for the Blind, Jammu, his dedication and discipline continue to inspire young athletes.
The Indian Para Judo team concluded the championship with a total of five medals, including gold for Gulshan (UP), silver for Kapil Parmar (MP) and Kokila (Haryana) and bronze for Dharm Veer Verma (U.P). In the men’s team event, India defeated Mongolia to claim bronze. Imran’s achievement underscores that disability is no barrier to excellence, inspiring athletes across Jammu & Kashmir and the nation.
