*Says JKP ready to encourage sports, socio-cultural events

JAMMU, May 5: In an impressive, colourful and well attended function, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu Rajesh Kumar inaugurated the KPS Centenary T20 Cricket Cup, being organised by Kashmiri Pandit Sabha, Amphalla as part of its Centenary Celebrations at Jagti, near here.
Twelve teams drawn from various camp and non-camp areas are taking part in this 3-day tournament, which will conclude on May 7, 2013.
The teams included Friends Cricket Club, Kongposh CC, Baba XI, Tornado CC, BNCC, WCC, Sain CC, Orzu XI, Strikers XI, Valley CC, Delhi Wanderers and Oriental CC.
Meanwhile, Oriental Club and Tornado Cricket Club have made it to the semifinals by beating their rivals convincingly. Apart from awarded a bye in the first match, Oriental defeated BNCC to seal berth in the finals, while Tornado drubbed WCC and Valley Cricket Club in its two matches today to make it to the semifinals.
Kong Posh CC and Delhi Wanderers were the other two teams to win their respectively matches today, defeating their rivals Orzu and Friends CC respectively.
While speaking on the occasion, lavishing praise for the organizers, the chief guest emphasized the need of such activities and assured them support and help in this regard.
He said that the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) is always ready to encourage sports and other socio-cultural events amongst the youth to augment their strengths and help them not to derail from the mainstream.
Referring to the demand projected by the president KP Sabha, KK Khosa with regard to establishment of police post at Jagti, the IGP said that the demand will be fulfilled at an earliest.
Mr Khosa, in his welcome address said that it is the 3rd Centenary programme organized by Sabha and the first of its kind.
He requested the chief guest to take initiatives with regard to making a special recruitment drive for Kashmiri migrants in and around Jagti and Nagrota areas.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Moti Kaul, AK Braroo, CL Sadhu, Ashwani Koul, SL Bagati, Ashok Khar, Ravinder Raina, Dileep Pandita, Raj Nath Dhar, Desh Rattan and Subash Zutshi.
