Ian’s swashbuckling century goes in vain, Bhatia’s ton works for Delhi

JAMMU, Feb 13: J&K’s skipper Ian Dev Singh Chauhan scored a brilliant unbeaten century, but could not save Jammu and Kashmir from a narrow defeat by 4 wickets in the hands of formidable Delhi in the match of the Vijay Hazare T20 Cricket Tournament at Lohnu Cricket Ground, Bilaspur in Himachal Pradesh, today.
Earlier, put into bat, Jammu and Kashmir openers Shubam Khajuria and Ahmed Banday began the innings brilliantly and scored 49 runs, before Shubam fell in the 24 over at his individual score of 23 runs. He hit 3 boundaries in his brief knock. Banday was joined by skipper Ian Dev Singh and the duo took the score to 79 runs in 18.1 overs, when Banday was caught by Sood after the bowling of Bhatia, but not before slamming a marvelous 50 off 53 balls with the help of 4 boundaries and 3 sixes. Ian scored a superb unbeaten century, with useful contributions from Manik Gupta (27), Majid Dar (20) and Obaid Haroon (10) not out. He struck 11 boundaries in his 105-ball knock. For Delhi Rajat Bhatia took 2 wickets, while Sumit Narwal and Varun Sood claimed one wicket each.
In reply, Delhi, riding on a magnificent knock of unbeaten 106 runs by Rajat Bhatia reached the target in 46.2 overs by losing 6 wickets, thus won the match by 4 wickets. Bhatia hit 10 fours and one six in his 91 ball innings, while Milind Kumar also contributed valuable 66 runs. For J&K, speedsters Ramdayal, Sohail Andleep and Zahoor Sofi claimed 2 wickets each.
