JAMMU, May 8: Unlike previous years when Tawi Trekkers J&K used to organize two or three Himalayan Trekking Programmes during summer vacations in J&K and Himachal Pradesh areas, this year the club has decided to organize only one Himalayan Trekking Programme in Himachal Pradesh with the first group of 45 students of Oriental Academy Senior Secondary School, Jammu leaving for Dharamshala on June 1.
During this programme in which about 500 boys and girls in the age group of 10 to 14 years are expected to participate the trekkers will trek to Bhagshu Nag, Water fall, Gallu temple, Dharamkot (mini Israel) Dal Lake and shall also visit Dalai Lama temple in Macleodganj, Dharamshala Cricket Stadium, Tapovan,, Chamunda Devi and Nagini Devi. The highlight of the programme shall, however, be a visit to a tea garden and a tea manufacturing company where they shall learn the complete process of production of tea.
It is interesting to mention here that the club has been organizing Himalayan Trekking Programmes in Dalhousie -Chamba, Kullu-Manali and Dharamshalla areas of Himachal Pradesh since 1994. Over the years these programmes have emerged as the most popular activity of the club for students during summer vacations in which over 10000 boys and girls have participated so far. The purpose of this programme is to take the students away from the heat and dust and also hustle and bustle of city life and bring them close to nature.
The programme is being organized in cooperation with J&K State Sports Council, Mountaineering Association of J&K, Ibex Adventure Club, Samba, J&K Mountaineering and Allied Sports Club, Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Bantalab, Jammu and Adventure Holidays India, Sarwal, Jammu.
