JAMMU, Aug 27: Son of the soil, Surya Bhanu Partap Singh and his coach, Kuldeep Handoo (Chief Coach of India) were accorded heroes’ reception by Sports Council Jammu, Wushu Association of J&K, Jammu and Kashmir Police Department, Civil Administration and Sports Fraternity for keeping the State’s and the Country’s Flag high by winning bronze medal in Wushu while representing India in Asian Games 2018 at Jakarta in Indonesia.
Bhanu and Kuldeep were garlanded by their well wishers including family members, police officers and the office bearers of Wushu Association at Jammu Airport amid beating of Police Band drums in presence of thousands of people from sports fraternity and civil society.
Prominent among others who accorded warm reception to the ace pair at Jammu Airport were RS Chib, Senior Congress leader and former Minister; Danish Rana, IGP Armed; Vivek Gupta, SSP Jammu; Ranjeet Kalra, Vice Chairman, Jammu Sports Council; Vijay Saraf, President J&K Wushu Association and Deepak Handa, Vice President J&K Wushu Association.
The iconic duo of Bhanu and Handoo amid chanting of slogans by thousands of people from all walks of life, proceeded to Amar Singh Club Jammu where they were accorded a civic reception by Jammu Sports Council and J&K Wushu Association in an impressive and well attended function.
The function among others was attended by top sportspersons and coaches of the State.
Both Bhanu and Handoo were presented with a shawl and a bouquet as a token of gratitude by a galaxy of dignitaries including Prof Manoj Dhar, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu; Dr SD Singh Jamwal, IGP Jammu; Danish Rana, IGP Armed and Ramesh Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Jammu.
Earlier, Saraf welcomed all the dignitaries and highlighted the achievements of the Association, while in his formal welcome address, Ranjeet Kalra threw light on the contribution of Wushu Association, especially its ace coach, Kuldeep Handoo, in shaping careers of talented players, besides throwing light on the initiatives of the Government being taken for promoting budding sportspersons.
He lauded the efforts of the Advisor to the Governor, K Vijay Kumar and J&K Police in taking various measures with regard to promotion of sports and games in nooks and corners of the State.
The proceedings of the felicitation function were conducted by famous anchor Rajesh Dhar.
Meanwhile, on the sidelines of the function, Bhanu Partap while talking to media persons, apart from his coach (Handoo) and his parents, attributed his success to the office bearers of J&K Wushu Association.
It has been learnt that J&K Police Department will be recommending Bhanu’s name for the post of DySP. Bhanu is presently serving as an SPO in the Department.
Shri Amar Kshatriya Rajput Sabha J&K also welcomed Bhanu Partap Singh on his arrival at the Jammu Airport.
Rajput Sabha J&K appealed the State Government especially the Governor of State to encourage Bhanu by awarding him a Gazetted Government Job in the State besides providing him Financial Assistance on the patern of other states of the courty. The Sabha said that the athlete will serve as an inspiration for the budding sportsperson of the State.
