JAMMU, Mar 7: Jammu Hills Sports Club organized Herath Marathon- one of its kind in J&K with a strong message of ‘Run for Health and Stay away from Drugs’, powered by AM Hyundai, here today.
The Herath Marathon evoked an overwhelming response from the people of all walks of life which was organised under the guidance and overall supervision of Fit India Ambassador and Droanacharya Award winner, Kuldeep Handoo besides the event witnessed participation and support from the elite athletes fraternity of J&K.
More than 200 participants from all walks of the life lined up at Grand Hill Resort Jammu in early morning, whereas this event was also held virtually across the India.
The run was flagged off by Fit India Ambassador, Kuldeep Handoo which was organised in four categories including 42 km, 21 km, 5 km and 10 km which was kicked off from the City’s green corridor at Sidhra to Nagrota Bypass and finally culminated at the starting point.
In overall podium finishers were Abhishek Gupta (03:52), Vijay Sharma (03:56) and Mukesh Kumar (04:05) stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively in 42 km run, whereas Parshottam Lal (01:32), Shafat Bashir (01:36) and Sindhu Sharma (01:43) remained 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively in 21 km.
“Nearly eight hydration points were set up along 21 km route, while full marathon participants had to run in double loop. Eventik was the timing partner and clock the running time for each participant which provides live results through their website for each runner at the finishing line and digital certificate,” said organiser of the event.
After finish of race, all participants were given medals while all ambassadors were provided with special designed trophies.
“More than 1000 Jammuites have taken up running as hobby in the last 3 to 4 years and the number is rising every year, whereas the number of casual runners has increased tremendously and any running event, right from 3km to 21km distance, getting huge response,” said Praveen Raina, founder of Jammu Hills Sports Club.
