LEH, Feb 5: Haryana boys defeated their Delhi counterparts by two goals to nil (2-0) in the summit clash to lift the title, while J&K Blue girls team defeated J&K Red by three goals to nil (3-0) in the final to emerge winner in the 1st National Ice Hockey U-18 Championship at Karzoo Ice Hockey Rink, here today.
The closing function was presided over by District Development Commissioner, Leh Tsering Angchuk.
It is pertinent to mention that National Ice Hockey Championship, under 18 (boys and girls) has been organized for the first time in Leh district by Ice Hockey Association of India.
While appreciating the initiative of IHAI DDC Leh said that this tournament has provided a good opportunity to the young players of the region to showcase their talent and potential in this winter sport.
He advocated that IHAI must focus Ladakh in their future winter sports activities considering the potential of the sport supported by the geographical condition of the region.
DC also made a mention of an Ice Hockey Rink of international standard coming up in Leh and said that Council and Administration are putting hard efforts to complete it at the earliest possible with the vision to promote Ice Hockey to the standard of national and international levels.
Speaking on the occasion, Akshey Kumar, general secretary, IHAI highlighted the recent activities carried out by IHAI during the year.
