Guv announces higher cash awards for medalists of 35th National Games

JAMMU, Feb 16: N.N. Vohra, Governor, has congratulated sportspersons from the State who have won medals at the 35th National Games which were held at Kerala from January 31 to February 14, 2015. In these Games, sportsmen and women from J&K who participated in Gymnastics, Wushu, Boxing, Kayaking and Canoeing won 15 medals including 3 gold, 2 silver and 10 bronze medals. The Governor has lauded the excellent results achieved by the sportspersons from the State and wished them higher successes in all future competitions.
The Governor has also announced an increase in the value of cash awards. The winner of a gold medal will now receive a cash award of Rs. 51,000 while those winning silver medals will be given cash award of Rs. 31,000. The bronze medal winners will receive Rs. 21,000. This is a significant increase from the existing cash awards of Rs. 25,000, Rs.15,000 and Rs. 10,000 for the winners of gold, silver and bronze medals, respectively, the Raj Bhavan spokesperson added.
The Raj Bhavan spokesperson disclosed that a contingent of 89 members in various sports disciplines like gymnastic, fencing, athletic, archery, shooting, wrestling etc. had participated in the National Games.
In recognition of their excellent performances in these Games, the sportspersons will be felicitated in a function to be held at the Raj Bhavan in the near future when the medal winners will also receive their awards.
