Govt taking revolutionary measures for developing sports infra: Ansari

JAMMU, Jan 15: Minister for Information Technology, Technical Education and Youth Services & Sports, Imran Raza Ansari today attended the valedictory event of North Zone Inter University Table Tennis Tournament organized by Directorate of Sports and Physical Education University of Jammu, Jammu here today.
Punjabi University Patiala defeated University of Delhi in a close contest by (3-2) in the summit clash and lifted the title trophy.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister stressed on necessity of developing sports culture among younger generation to promote more sports talent from the State.
The Minister lauded the role of the Vice Chancellor of Jammu University for organizing the event where more than 40 teams from various States of the northern region have participated.
Ansari maintained that with more players from all over the country participating in such sporting events will play a decisive role in encouraging the local talent.
Highlighting Government’s initiatives, the Minister said that the present dispensation has taken several revolutionary measures for providing necessary sports facilities and opportunities to nurture the sports talent in the State.
The Minister said that every education institution must include sports in their curriculum and further asked the youth to take up sports to lead a healthy and disciplined life.
The Minister further stressed on conducting such type of events that will encourage youth to take up sports and lay down a platform for local players to display their talent at higher level.
Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, Prof R D Sharma, Director Youth Service and Sports Sheikh Fayaz, Director Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, Prof Avtar Singh Jasrotia, Joint Registrar Finance University of Jammu, Dr Darmendhra Malhotra, Vice Chairman, J&K State Sports Council, Ranjeet Kalra and Deputy Director Central Youth Service and sports, Haji Mirza, besides other officials and students of the University were also present on the occasion.
