JAMMU, May 25: Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Bahu Fort today organized an awareness workshop on environmental conservation and drug-free living, aimed at motivating students to adopt a healthy and responsible lifestyle.
The workshop was conducted by noted environmentalist and social activist Kewal Wadhera, who inspired students with his energetic interaction and practical message on social responsibility despite being 85 years old.
Addressing the students, Wadhera stressed the importance of staying away from drugs and maintaining strong family bonds. He said that real change begins at home and urged students to reform themselves first before expecting change in society. He highlighted the role of family support in leading a disciplined and healthy life.
Speaking on environmental protection, Wadhera appealed to students to avoid single-use plastics and use cloth bags instead. Cloth bags were also distributed among students during the workshop. He further encouraged students to support local businesses and promote domestic tourism to strengthen the economy and reduce carbon footprint.
The social activist also emphasized water conservation, tree plantation and proper waste disposal. Demonstrating simple methods of recycling and reuse, he showed students how old plastic containers and discarded clothes could be creatively used for plantation and making bags.
Wadhera also called upon students to stay connected with their culture and traditions while contributing positively towards society and the environment.
Principal Anuradha Sharma said the workshop encouraged students to adopt meaningful changes in their daily lives.
The programme concluded with students taking a pledge to conserve the environment and remain free from drugs and plastic use.
