JAMMU, Dec 22: EVS Department of GDC Bishnah organized a symposium on the theme “Management and Conservation of Gharana Wetland” supported by WWF-India, J&K State Unit in collaboration with Ministry of Environment and Forest GoI under the convenership of Preeti Dogra, Assistant Professor.
Proceedings of the programme were initiated by Preeti Dogra by welcoming the chief guest Dr C M Seth, Chairman WWF followed by presentation of bouquet, memento and lightning of traditional lamp by Prof Kalpana Kesar, Principal of the College.
PowerPoint presentation given by the chief guest assisted by Bandhu Sharma and Ish Bharti depicting the various migratory birds of Gharana Wetland which migrate from Central Asia and Europe.
In the presentation he apprised the students regarding the various measures to be taken to save the beautiful Gharana Wetland.
Six students participated in the symposium and threw light on the various issues related to the Gharana Wetland situated in R.S.Pura on the Indo-Pak border.
Preeti Dogra while addressing the students explained that Gharana Wetland has its importance in maintaining biodiversity, water availability, pollution control and providing resting and nesting place for migratory birds but various factors have led to its degradation.
Pooja Devi, Monika Kaith and Sanjeev Panjgotra were adjudged 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively, while consolation prize went to Tania Sharma.
The jury included Dr Alka Sharma, Dr Rupinder Kour and Dr Renu Gupta.
Later, the programme concluded with distribution of trophies among the winners of various activities.
