GCW Parade retains Chess title, PG Arts lifts title trophy of Cricket

Inter-Collegiate Tournaments at JU

JAMMU, Sept 27: Government College for Women (GCW) Parade retained the Inter Collegiate Chess Tournament title, while PG Arts University of Jammu emerged winner in the Inter Collegiate Cricket Tournament, here today.
In the final of the Inter-Collegiate (Women) Tournament organized by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education University of Jammu, GCW Parade outplayed GCW Udhampur by 2.5-1.5 points and retained the title.
Naina of GCW Parade beat Aditi, Simran of GCW Parade beat Amisha, Manisha of GCW Parade and Manisha of GCW Udhampur match remained draw and Tania of GCW Parade lost to Sarika of GCW Udhampur.
Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Director Sports and Physical Education University of Jammu awarded medal and trophies to the winner and runner-up team members in the presence of Ajmer Singh, Landscaping Officer of the University of Jammu, Suman Lata and Pinki Sharma.
In Men Section, GCET Jammu will take on PG Department JU in the summit clash. Earlier in the first semis, GCET Jammu beats GDC Kistwar by 3-1 points, whereas in the second semifinal match, PG Department JU defeated GDC Kathua by 4-0 points.
The matches were officiating by SP Sharma, Sushil Sawhney and PD Singh.
Meanwhile, in the title clash of Inter Collegiate Cricket Tournament, PG Arts JU defeated GDC Kathua by 15 runs.
Batting first, PG Arts JU scored 130 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in allotted 20 overs. Baber Irshad chipped in magnificent 48 runs, while Honesh Uppal, Iftiaz and Abhishek scored 22, 16 and 14 runs respectively.
For GDC Kathua, Ram Prasad bowled well and scalped 3 wickets, while Sahil took 2 wickets. Kush and Abhay pocketed one wicket each.
In reply, GDC Kathua failed to chase the target and bundled out at 115 runs by losing 8 wickets in stipulated 20 overs. Raj Kumar scored 31 runs, while Sahil and Rahul chipped in 29 and 11 runs respectively.
For PG Arts JU, Hitesh, Rahul and Anirudh took 2 wickets each, while Iftiaz and Afaq Khan scalped 1 wicket apiece.
The match was officiated by Vijay Choudhary, Sadiq Hussain and Raj Kumar Bakshi as umpires, while Vijay Kumar Raina maintained the scorecard.
On the valedictory function, Prof Prikshit Singh Manhas, Director SHTM distributed the prizes in presence of Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Director Sports and Physical Education University of Jammu, Raj Kumar Bakshi, Ravish Vaid and others.
