GCW Parade lifts Inter Collegiate Women Hockey Tournament

JAMMU, Sept 24: The Govt. College for Women (GCW) Parade won the Inter-Collegiate Hockey (Women) Tournament after beating PG Department, University of Jammu in the summit clash by a solitary goal.
Both the teams made good moves, however, Kriti Sharma of GCW Parade scored a field goal for the team in the 19th minute of the game to help her team win the title by a solitary goal.
Earlier, in the semi-final matches which were played yesterday evening, PG Department JU team defeated Govt College for Women Gandhi Nagar by (3-0) goals. Alzabath scored two goals during the 2nd and 17th minutes respectively, while Shubeena scored a goal in the 12th minute, while in the second semifinal match, GCW Parade outplayed GDC Poonch by (2-1) goals. Bhavana Sharma and Kirti Sharma scored a goal each for their team in the 12th and 32nd minutes respectively, while Minakshi Khajuria scored a goal for GDC Poonch team during the 45th minute.
In the first semifinal match of men’s section, PG Department (Arts) team of Jammu University beat GDC Poonch team by (2-1) goals. Rajveer Singh and Tarvinderpal Singh scored a goal for the PG Department team in the 19th and 28th minutes respectively. The only goal for the GDC Poonch team was scored by Saval in the 17th minute, while in the second semifinal match, SPMR College of Commerce beat MBS College of Engineering &Technology by (2-1) goals. The match remained goalless in the stipulated time and was decided via shootouts. In the shootouts, Balmeet Singh and Amrinder Singh scored goals for the SPMR College of Commerce, while Jagandeep Singh scored a goal for MBS College.
Prof Dhian S Bhau, Director, Directorate of Sports & Physical Education was the chief guest on the valedictory function of the women section, who awarded trophy to the winners in the presence of Prof Sanjay Singh, Raj Kumar Bakshi,  Ravish Vaid, Gagan Kumar, Jasbir Singh, Veena Chib, Gurmeet Kour, Romesh Sharma and Dr Brij Baloria.
The tournament was conducted under the supervision of PD Singh.
Meanwhile, in Volleyball Inter Collegiate (Men) Tournament, GDC Hiranagar will lock horns with PG Department in the final.
In semifinals, GDC Hiranagar beat GGM Science College by (3-0) sets (25-22, 25-33, 25-21) and PG Deptt. beat GDC Poonch by 3-0 sets (25 – 16, 25 – 18, 25 – 19).
Earlier, in the quarterfinals, GGM Science College beat GDC Udhampur by 2-1 sets (20- 25, 25- 23, 15-10), GDC Hiranagar got better of MAM College by 2-0 sets (25-18, 25-10), GDC Poonch prevailed over GDC Surankot by 2-0 sets (25 – 21, 25 – 11) and P.G. Deptt defeated GCET Jammu by 2-0 sets (25-14, 25-11).
The tournament was organized under the supervision of Prof. Dhian S. Bhau, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu.
The matches were officiated by Mulkh Raj, Shivali Dogra, Shalvi Charak and Amit Sharma under the supervision of event Incharge Vikas Karlopia (Volleyball Coach).
The final match of boys section will be played on Monday at 2.30 p.m. sharp.
