GCOPE remains overall best performer in inter-college festival

GANDERBAL, Oct 19: Youth Services and Sports Department’s first ever inter-college sports festival, organised at the Government College of Physical Education (GCOPE), concluded at Sports Stadium of the host College here, wherein GCOPE stood overall best performer of the festival, today.
A total of 27 Colleges of Kashmir province participated with 1500 participants.
The festival hosted eight events comprising Football (Men), Volleyball (Men & Women), Basketball (Men & Women), Kho-Kho (Men & Women) and Table-Tennis (Women) under the theme “Creating a Healthy Community through Sports.”
Clinching the title of the best overall performer, GCOPE bagged four trophies in Volleyball (Women), Table-Tennis (Women) and Kho-Kho (Men & Women). In Football (men) GDC Baramulla emerged victorious. In Volleyball (Men) GDC Ganderbal were declared winners. In Basketball (Women) WC MA Road were conquerors.
In Football (Men) GDC Baramulla got 1st place, Amar Singh College stood 2nd and GDC Pattan remained 3rd, while in Volleyball (Men) GDC Ganderbal got 1st place, GDC Baramulla clinched 2nd place and GCOPE got 3rd positions and in Volleyball (Women) GCOPE, Women’s College MA Road Srinagar and GDC Zukura stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively, besides in Basketball (Women) Women’s College MA Road stood 1st GCOPE remained 2nd and Women’s College Nawakadal got 3rd position, while in Kho-Kho (Men) GCOPE clinched 1st place, GDC Baramulla 2nd and GDC Ganderbal 3rd position.
In Kho-Kho (Women) GCOPE got 1st place, Women’s College MA Road got 2nd and GDC Ganderbal claimed 3rd positions and in Table-Tennis (Women) GCOPE got 1st, Women’s College Baramulla stood 2nd and GCET Ganderbal got 3rd position.
Subhash C Chibber, Director Youth Services & Sports, Shyambir Singh Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Bashir Ahmed Joint Director (Kashmir YSS), Dr Hartej Singh Principal GCOPE and Shafqat Ahmed DYSSO Ganderbal distributed the trophies and cash prizes among the winners. Besides the eight winner-up, eight runner-up and eight hard-liner teams were awarded with cash prizes of Rs 8000, Rs 6000 and Rs 4000 along with complete team uniform sets with tracksuits and equipment.
Officials of different games, convenors of various committees and many senior officers and officials of the department were also felicitated, the incharge media and publicity wing’s Azhar Hajini conducted proceedings of the valedictory ceremony.
