Friends Club drubs Street Warriors in inaugural tie

AKHNOOR, July 26: Friends Cricket Club trounced Street Warriors by a narrow margin of 15 runs in the inaugural match of the Akhnoor Tehsil Cricket Tournament, being organized by Singh Cricket Club at Government Higher Secondary School ground, here.
Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma was the chief guest at the inaugural, who declared the tournament open in an impressive and well attended function. Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Akhnoor, Farooq Qaiser was the guest of honour.
The tournament, in which 12 teams drawn from Akhnoor Tehsil are taking part, is being held under the overall supervision of Sham Singh Langeh, chairman Akhnoor Tehsil Cricket Committee.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Madan Lal, D N Abrol, Aman Gupta, Bansi Lal, Raman Gupta, Didar Hussain, Suresh Gupta and Sonu Malhotra.
Earlier, winning the toss, Street Warriors put Friends Cricket Club into bat.
Batting first, FCC scored a decent total of 171 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 7 wickets in the process. Amit Rajput was the top scorer with 64 runs off 24 balls, studded with 8 sixes and 2 fours, while Anil Verma contributed 29 runs off 20 balls with the help of 2 sixes and 2 fours. For Street Warriors, KP Singh and Aman bagged 2 wickets each, while Deepak Singh and Sourav claimed one wicket each.
While replying a challenging total, Street Warriors fought well but could manage to score 156 runs only for the loss of 9 wickets, thus lost the match by a narrow margin of 15 runs. Dilawar Singh emerged top scorer with 50 runs in 30 balls, hitting 2 sixes and 6 fours, while Amit Rajput and Raju contributed 34 and 29 runs to the total respectively. For Friends Club, Anil Verma was the pick of the bowlers, who scalped 4 important wickets, while Amit Singh bagged 3 wickets and Vicky claimed one. Amit Rajput was adjudged man of the match for his brilliant innings.
The match was officiated by Sunny Kumar and Dayal Singh as umpires, while Vinod Kumar acted as the scorer.
