Farooq announces cash award for Shubam Khajuria

JAMMU, July 14: Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy and Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) president, Dr Farooq Abdullah has announced a cash award of Rs 2,00,000 for J&K cricketer Shubam Khajuria in recognition of his outstanding performance at the national level and his subsequent selection in the India Under-19 squad to tour Sri Lanka.
According to a handout issued by JKCA Media Committee Chairman, Ranjeet Kalra, treasurer JKCA Manzoor Wazir met Dr Farooq Abdullah in Srinagar after returning from Mangolia, wherein expressing happiness over Shubam’s achievement and wishing him good luck for the forthcoming tour, JKCA president announced a cash prize of Rs 2,00,000 for the promising cricketer.
According to Wazir, JKCA president also directed for the resumption of cricket activities in the State for which the monthly calendar will be released soon.
Meanwhile, in a function at Jammu, Director General of Sports, Navin Aggarwal felicitated Shubam Khajuria for his landmark achievement.
Aggarwal said that the players like Shubam and Parvez Rasool would serve an inspiration rather beacon-lights to guide and goad budding cricketers of the State in future.
Speaking on the occasion, Shubam said that the coaches and cricket experts of the Department of Youth services and Sports had a great influence in shaping his talent at the tender age.
Hearing Shubam’s lavish praise for DYSS coaches, the DG Sports has asked his subordinates to award the coaches for their efforts in honing the skill of the players at the grass-root level. Prominent among those present on the occasion were Tirath Ram DYSSO Jammu, Rajesh Dhar Lecturer Physical Education, Sher Singh ZPEO,  B K Tikoo, Saleem-ul-Rehman and Sadiq Hussain Malik.
