KATHUA, Oct 18: The farmers from border belt of Kathua and Hiranagar today suspended their agitation on the third day today after the Deputy Commissioner Kathua intervened and the FCI authorities agreed to purchase paddy of the farmers.
The farmers were protesting against the FCI for the last three days as Corporation officials at the procurement center, Nagri Parole, refused to purchase their paddy on the plea that stuff was not good. The farmers had transported their paddy in tractor trolleys to the procurement center and also went for leaning the food-grains by scanners (Chhanana) on the advise of FCI staff. But they refused to lift. On this farmers started agitation and launched protest.
Today Deputy Commis-sioner Kathua Zahida Khan called the General Manager of FCI Anil Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer Kathua Bimal Sambyal besides representatives from farming community and held meeting. Later, the issue was resolved and the FCI agreed to lift paddy. The farmers then suspended their agitation.
