JAMMU, Mar 29: MIER College of Education organized an extension lecture on the theme ‘Teacher Education: Issues and Problems’, here today.
The resource person was Prof SK Yadav, former Head, Department of Teacher Education, NCERT and currently, consultant at NCTE, New Delhi. HODs of various Departments of the College graced the occasion along with the faculty and students of the B.Ed and PG Departments.
Dr NR Sharma, Dean Academics MIER College, extended a warm welcome to the resource person and introduced Prof SK Yadav, an expert in the field of School Education and Teacher Education. He further said that Prof Yadav is a distinguished researcher and a teacher educator with a number of major initiatives to his credit. One of his contributions is the major cooperative research project ‘Impact of In-service Teacher Training under SSA on Classroom Transaction’ involving fifteen states which was sponsored by the MHRD, Govt. of India.
In his address, Prof. Yadav said teaching is a highly professional activity which demands specialized knowledge, skills and behavior and the onus of inculcating these skills and competences falls on the teacher training programs. He highlighted the recommendations of various commissions and policies in education to improve teacher education so that it not only meets the demands of the profession but also of the society.
