Extension Lecture on ‘Cyber Crime: A Threat to Women’ held at MIER

JAMMU, Jan 20: An extension lecture on the topic ‘Cyber Crime: A Threat to Women was organized by Shanti Gupta Centre for Women Studies (SSGCWS), MIER College of Education to commemorate the Cyber Safety week.
The resource person was Mudasik Basu, DySP Crime Department, while Dr Renu Gupta, Principal and Director, MIER presided over the function. HoDs of various Departments of the College also graced the occasion besides the faculty and students of the B.Ed and M.Ed. Departments.
The programme commenced with the inauguration of the wall magazine on the theme “Violence Against Women and Cyber Crime” by the chief guest.
Dr Renu Gupta extended a warm welcome to the resource person and introduced the resource person as an officer who has served in different capacities in the Police Department of Jammu and Kashmir.
In his address, Basu explained the audience that cyber crime is an offence committed against an individual with a criminal motive to intentionally harm the reputation of the victim or cause physical or mental harm, using modern telecommunication networks such as Internet, chat rooms, emails, mobile phones etc.
The lecture was followed by an interactive session in which the audience participated enthusiastically and posed their queries. The programme was conducted by Diva Jyot Oberoi, B.Ed student.
