JAMMU, Nov 28: An enrichment program for teaching English to classes VI to VII was organized at Delhi Public School (DPS), Jammu.
The program was organized by DPS Society New Delhi and Council of Education Management (CEM), Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC), New Delhi.
The 1st session started with a film on assessment by CEM, HRDC. The film was an address by Dinesh Singh, Vice Chancellor of Delhi University, where he focused on the objectives of assessment by enabling children to progress in life while connecting teaching and learning in order to assess students.
The 2nd session on ‘Assessment of Listening and Speaking Skills’ was delivered by Homi Astavans, an Education Consultant and Teacher Trainer. The session enriched the teachers about enhancing practical English language skills apart from simple reading and writing.
Session 3rd on ‘Developing Writing Skils’ and session 4th on ‘Using Multiple Intelligence Theory in English Language Teaching (ELT) and Learning’ were addressed by Dr Kirti Kapur, Associate Prof NCERT. She motivated all the teachers to develop strong writing skills through daily practice and determination.
Illa Vij, an ELT Consultant, Author and Teacher Trainer, explained the use of Literature as an indispensable technique for teaching language skills and language areas. An informative session was delivered by Prof Neena Gupta Vij, Associate Professor, Central University, Jammu.
The program concluded with a session on ‘Theatre as an Effective Learning Tool in ELT’. The resource person for the session was Saloni Mahajan, Resource Associate for Newspaper in Education, Times of India. She focused on how the improvisation aspect of drama gives students opportunities for developing their communication skills.
DPS Jammu also arranged a musical night— ‘Sur Sangam’ for all guests and delegates at Hari Niwas Palace to rejuvenate their senses and sensibilities.
