Enquiry initiated against JKOA president for allegedly violating ‘Sports code’

JAMMU, July 11: Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council (JKSC) initiated an enquiry against president of Jammu and Kashmir Olympic Association (JKOA) for allegedly violating ‘Sports code’ in term of holding more than 15 Associations and directed the Sports Officer Jammu to furnish the report regarding the matter within seven days.
In this regard, a official communiqué has been forwarded to Sports Officer Jammu for enquiry into the matter by Administrative Officer, J&K Sport Council with vide order No: SC/124/2253, dated 08/07/2021 wherein the Administrative Officer directed its subordinate to furnish the report on the allegations, raised by Cycling Association of J&K and players of various sports disciplines against JKOA president, Ashutosh Sharma.
In the complaint, the players and Association alleged that Sharma is the mastermind for the capturing of more than 15 Associations which is being operated from his official residence, situated at Karan Nagar, here. “He is more than 85 years old and holding the president post of the JKOA which is against the sports code, framed by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, GoI,” they alleged.
These Associations including Judo, Cycling, Gymnastic, Athletic, Yoga, Archery, Shooting, Wrestling, Basketball, Kho-Kho, Lawn Tennis, Weightlifting and Modern Pentathlon etc and office bearers of these organisations have been swapping their positions at post of office bearers for the last many years by hoodwinking, resulting of it, till date there is no district units across the J&K, whereas some of the office bearers of the JKOA are Govt employees and having no NOC from the department concerned which is utterly violation of sports code, they alleged in the complaint.
“The Indian Olympic Association sanctions every year more than Rs seven lakh as a grant to JKOA for the development of sports in the UT, but till date, he has not spent a single penny for the same. From the last three years, JKOA has felicitated the players with the Rangeel Singh Award in which money being given to the sports persons is the money which he collects from the sponsorship,” the complaint read as.
