JAMMU, Jan 12: Educational institutions and social organizations celebrated ‘Lohri’ with religious fervour and gaiety, here today.
Lohri the ‘bonfire festival’ was celebrated with pomp and show at Luthra Public School, Talab Tillo Jammu. .All the dignitaries put forth their views on the festival and other advantages of it for the furtherance of peace and love across the country. They mentioned as how the festival marks the end of bad deeds and hatred and ushers the brotherhood all-over the country.
Vimal Muni College of Education, Vijaypur celebrated Lohri Festival in the College premises, today. The students arranged the holy log of woods and decorated it with Rangoli.
Chairperson of the College, Anu Gupta, along with Principal, Dr Neelam Bakshi, staff members and students lit the holy fire and prayed the almighty for peace and harmony in the Society and ultimately in the country. Students sang the Lohri songs and danced at the rhythm of doll, cultural items were also presented by the students.
Bawa Kailakh Dev Parbandhak Committee organized Lohri Milan Programme at Bawa Kailakh Dev Asthan Thathar.
On this occasion, Shakti Dutt Sharma presented ‘chunri’ and ‘baint’ to MLA Sat Sharma, Member Parliament, Jugal Kishore Sharma, Forest Minister, Bali Bhagat and MLC Ashok Khajuria as a sign of memory.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Trust president, Ram Paul Seth, Vishwa Hindu president Shakti Dutt Sharma, Omi Khajuria, Dr C M Raina, Sunil Dutt (Raka), Yash Seth, Vicky Mehra, SP Rural, Sanjev Bral, Advocate Pawan Khajuria and Summit Shastri.
Toady an impressive function was organized under the president-ship of Balbir Singh Manhas, Advocate to celebrate Lohri Milan. Huge gathering of the community members participated & graced the occasion and performed the pooja of the holy fire. Prominent among others present were Shamsher Singh Manhas, MP Rajya Sabha, Col. Uttam Singh, Ashok Singh, Ex-Municipal Councilor, JP Singh, president Youth Wing Mahasabha, Master Kehar Singh, Balwant Singh Manhas and Baljit Singh.
Shiksha Niketan organized a function on ‘Lohri’ with the theme to make the students aware about this festival and make an end to poverty. The stage was beautiful decorated according to the theme of the festival. All the students of 1st and 2nd class came in colourful dresses. The celebration started with the bonfire by the Principal Sir along with students and teachers. Principal of the School, Rameshwar Mengi blessed the students on the eve of Lohri and also distributed the Lohri sweets among the students and teachers.
Lohri was celebrated in Sant Mela Singh College of Education, Digiana with great enthusiasm today. Chairman of the College, Prof Anmol Singh was the chief guest on the occasion. The function started with the lighting of the bonfire. Dance and Gidda was performed by the students on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Principal of the College, Dr Kiran Luthra highlighted the importance of Lohri and distributed eatables among the students.
