JAMMU, Apr 25: Renowned and talented Kaviat Dwibedi was in the premises of G.D Goenka Public School, Jammu, governed by Om Prakash Bansal Charitable Trust to celebrate the World Dance Day today.
An alumnus of Delhi University, Ms Dwibedi enthralled all with her graceful impeccable and very expressive dance moves. Kaviat was in school along with her team comprising of Suresh Sethi, the lead vocalist, Agnimitra the violinist and Manas Kumar Sarangi-who played Martala.
The programme started with the traditional lighting of the lamp of knowledge in honour of Maa Saraswati, the goddess of intellect. It was a visual treat to witness Kaviat Dwibedi in traditional Indian Odissi attire adorned with traditional temple jewellery.
To begin with Ms Dwibedi explained the history and importance of Odissi dance form, then spoke at length about the difference between classical and folk dances, about ‘Sur’ and ‘Tal’ in Dance and co-related it to the expressions. She laid emphasis on the importance of passion and patience. Then she described the three positions which are considered to be the lifelines of Odissi, the hokar position, the tribhanga position and the torso movement.
The first performance was’ Mangla Charan’ the first tradition In Oddddisi dance which comprises of full devotion. It is a prayer to Lord Jagannatha and tribute to Maa Sarswati.
Ms. Kaviat was gracious to explain to the audience the various dance ‘Mudra’ like Nupur Padika and Darpan. She performed lecture demonstration highlighting the techniques of the dance.
The programme ended with an interactive session between Ms. Kaviat Dwibedi and the audience in which she also taught certain ‘ Mudras’ to the audience.
Dr Sapna K Sangra, SPIC Macay Co-ordinator of J & K and Dr Seema Rohmetra, Co-ordinator, Jammu were also present on the occasion.
Sanya Bansal, Director of the school also graced the occasion with her presence.
