JAMMU, Dec 10: Highlighting the role played by police in ensuring peace in the State, the Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh today said the State’s police force has always been upfront in ensuring sustainment of peace and also thwarting the designs of anti-national elements, besides contributing in other spheres of life.
The Deputy Chief Minister was speaking at the inaugural function of 65th All India Police Hockey Tournament organized by Jammu and Kashmir Police at KK Hakku Stadium here. 27 teams from different States and services are participating in the 7-Day tournament. The finals are slated to be held on 16th of December.
Minister for Revenue Relief and Rehabilitation Syed Basharat Bukhari, Deputy Speaker Legislative Assembly, Nazir Gurezi, Director General of Police K Rajendra Kumar, ADGPs, V K Singh, Dilbagh Singh, L.K Mohanty, IGPs Yogender Koul, S.A Watali, Danish Rana, A.G Mir, DIGs and other senior officers of the police and various other departments were present on the occasion.
The Deputy Chief Minister said Jammu and Kashmir Police has always been upfront in maintenance of peace and also providing quality of services to the people of the State. “We should all compliment the service rendered by our police force, the personnel of which without caring for their lives have always played a yeoman’s role in ensuring that the people of the state live with peace and dignity,” he said and maintained that they have also contributed immensely in other spheres of life.
Dr. Singh while complementing the JKP for organizing these types of events said that these tournaments provide an opportunity to the sportspersons to interact with each other and also hone their talent.
Minister for Revenue Relief and Rehabilitation Syed Basharat Ahmad Bukhari also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the importance of organizing these events. He said Jammu and Kashmir Police has been organizing several sports events which has gone a long way in inculcating the sports spirit in among the youth and aspiring sportspersons and thereby have contributed immensely in the sports arena of the State.
Basharat Bukhari said the State Government has undertaken several measures for upgrading and augmenting the sports infra in the State by way of constructing several playgrounds and also renovating the existing Stadia.
Director General of Police K Rajendra Kumar also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the importance of organizing these type of events. He said Jammu and Kashmir police has been organizing several sports events in the past as well, so that the sports scenario gets a fillip in the state and more youth participate in these types of activities.
A colorful cultural programme was also presented on the occasion.
