JAMMU, Nov 25: To promote love for Hindustani Classical Music among the young generations, DPS Jammu organized Saptak-2014, an Inter-House Classical Solo Singing Competition for classes IX to XII in the School premises here today.
Ravi Sharma, a renowned Santoor Player, Singer, Composer and approved Radio artist of J&K was the chief guest and judge on the occasion.
The programme began with the lighting of traditional lamp by the chief guest, Principal and Headmistress of the School.
There were two participants from each of the five houses trained by the Music faculty of the School, who presented Raag based Classical ‘Bandish’ accompanied by Harmonioum, Tabla and Tanpura.
Tawi House was adjudged as the winner and the Chenab House, the runners-up.
In the individual category, Riya Rastogi (Class XI) Subah Prabhakar (Class XII) and Shivangi (Class XII) stood first second and third respectively.
Addressing the gathering, Additional Director/Principal of the School, Dr D Joseph advised the children to continue the pursuit of such constructive and creative activities.
Ruchi Chabra, Headmistress, DPS Jammu and Meenu Gupta, Headmistress up to Middle Wing were present on the occasion. The programme was coordinated by Manika Verma, Ganga House In-charge who also presented the vote of thanks at the end.
