UDHAMPUR, Oct 11: District Udhampur Fencing Championship in the age group of under-14, 17 and under-19 years for boys and girls concluded at Happy Model School, here today.
Around 100 fencers drawn from different schools and clubs participated in this championship. Ashok Kumar, Director Sports, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board Katra was the chief guest on the prize distribution function who highlighted the importance of this game in ancient and present times, while Meenish Gulati, Principal Happy Model School Udhampur and Champa Rani, retired ZPEO were the special guests.
This Championship was organized by the J&K Amateur Fencing Association after five days coaching camp which was organized at two venues-Happy Model School and Nagbani School. The participating teams were Happy Model School, MHSDAV School, Sacred Era School, KV Udhampur, Degree College Boys Udhampur, Royal Fencing Club, Model Fencing Club etc. Happy Model School remained winners in the boys section, while in girls section MHSDAV Nagbani were the overall champions.
The matches were officiated by Ajay Kumar, Tariq Hussain, Chahat Singh, Kaka Singh and Rajan Prashar. Makhan Singh, Physical Education Teacher was the supervisor of this competition.
The gold medalists in Under-14 category included Akshay, Rahul Prashar, Aditya, Essha, Gursanjam and Sneha, while the silver medals went to Pulkit, Sufal, Vansh, Shreya, Shiney and Ridhi and the bronze medalists included Arush, Simran, Mannat, Nazarana, Rohit and Sourav.
In Under-17 category, the gold medalists included Shivdeep, Aman, Suman, Mansha, Rohit and Amit Chib, while silver medals went to Mohit Mathitra, Parvinder, Sakshi Charakh, Ashu Devi, Rohit Bhat and Umesh Thakur and the bronze medals were claimed by Rakesh, Vishal, Sushmita, Shallu, Tahir and Jeevan.
