District Level Inter-Zonal Competitions get underway

JAMMU, May 22: District Level Inter-Zonal Competitions in Under-14 and Under-17 boys Cricket and District Level Inter-School competitions in the disciplines of Hupkmando, Jump Rope, Hockey, Karate and Rugbi for Under-14 and Under-17 years boys got underway at GHS Jammu Cantonment, Kangrail, MA Stadium and KK Hakhu Astroturf Stadium, here today.
In all, 450 players drawn from Govt./ Pvt. Institutions of District Jammu are taking part in the competitions. The main objective of these competitions is to select the teams in these disciplines for the forthcoming competitions at the higher levels.
The competitions are being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, District Jammu, under the Chairmanship of Madan Lal, Joint Director Youth Services & Sports, Jammu and under the overall supervision of Sukhdev Raj Sharma, DYSSO Jammu.

Earlier, in Cricket Under-17 boys, Satwari Zone defeated Bishnah Zone by 15 runs.
Batting first, Satwari Zone scored 120 runs in stipulated 12 overs. Vinayak top scored with 57 runs. Keshav of Satwari Zone took 3 wickets in 3 overs. Bishnah Zone scored 105 runs by losing 9 wickets.
In another match,Chouki Choura drubbed Khour Zone by 8 runs. Chouki Choura scored 106/3 in 10 overs. Madhav Sharma was the top scorer with 39 runs for Chouki Choura. Khour Zone bundled out for 96 runs. Rajiv Singh contributed 25 runs, while Madhav took 2 wickets.
In Cricket Under-14 boys, Satwari Zone beat Bishnah Zone by 8 wickets. Bishnah Zone scored 59 runs by losing 9 wickets. Ojaswi, Vidan and Shivang took 2 wickets each.
Satwari Zone scored 60 runs for the loss of 1 wicket in 8.3 overs. Dhruv made 22 runs, while Aditiya contributed 23 runs.
The matches were officiated by Anju Gupta, Jasbir Singh, Saleem-ul-Rehman, Mohd Farooq, Jagtar Singh, Satika, Madan Mohan, Mukesh Sharma, Sadiq Hussain, Anil Sharma, Suresh Singh and Anil.
In other sports disciplines registration and weighing process took place today and the competitions will be held tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the Department of Youth Services and Sports, District Samba organized Inter-Zonal Cricket Tournament at Raja Suchet Singh Stadium, Samba for Under-17 boys under the supervision of District Youth Services and Sports Officer Samba, Sunil Kumar.
Five teams drawn from different zones of Samba district participated in the event. The final match was played between Purmandal Zone and Ramgarh Zone. Ramgarh Zone won the final match by 8 runs. Gulshan Kumar of Ramgah was adjudged as the best player of this tournament for scoring 71 runs and taking 5 wickets.
District Level Inter-Zonal Tournament for Girls Under-14 and Under-17 categories in the disciplines of Kabaddi, Volleyball and Kho-Kho concluded at Sports Stadium Udhampur.
About 411 girls drawn from 10 different zones of the District Udhampur participated in the tournament. The tournament was organized by District Youth Services & Sports Officer Udhampur.
The final matches of Volleyball Under-14 and Under-17 categories were won by Ramnagar Zone, while the final match of Kabaddi Under-14 category was won by Zone Panchari. Girls from Zone Majalta won the Kabaddi match Under-17 category.
Kho-Kho matches, both Under-14 and Under-17 were won by girls of Chenani Zone.
