Display Your Talent gets underway with pomp & show at JU

JAMMU, Sept 14: ‘Display Your Talent 2015-16’ commenced with pomp and show at the University of Jammu amidst fanfare and excitement among the participants, students and the audience.
‘Display Your Talent’ is an annual feature of the Department of Students Welfare, University of  Jammu in which students from the affiliated Degree Colleges and University Departments participate in 33 different competitions of music, dance, literary, fine-arts and theatrical activities.
Prof. Poonam Dhawan, Dean Academic Affairs was the chief guest on the inaugural function.
The inaugural programme started with the lighting of traditional lamp by Prof. Poonam Dhawan Prof. Pankaj Srivastava (Dean Students Welfare), Prof. K.K. Sharma (Chairman Campus Cultural Committee) and Prof. Alka Sharma (Co-Chairperson Campus Culture Committee).
Earlier, Prof Srivastava presented welcome address and apprised the audience about the inclusion of ‘Folk Orchestra’ this time.
Prof KK Sharma stressed on the need of extra-curricular activities, besides academics for the holistic development of the students, while Prof Poonam Dhawan in her address, advised the students to participate whole heartedly in these events because group participation is more important than winning. Prof. Alka Sharma presented the formal vote of thanks.
Four events namely Group Song Indian, Elocution, Rangoli and Flower arrangement were conducted at four different venues on the first day of Display Your Talent.
In Group Song Indian, 13 teams participated in which Govt. College for Women Parade was declared first; Govt. College for Women Gandhi Nagar stood second and Institute of Music & Fine Arts secured third position. GDC Samba and Govt. MAM College got certificates of merit.
Balbeer Chand Beera, Surinder Manhas and Kuldeep Saproo were the Judges for the event and Dr. Vijay Sehgal was the teacher In-Charge for the event.
In Elocution, 29 students participated. Kunal Saini from GGM Science College, Rishika Bakshi from GCW, Parade and Digvijay Singh from GDC Samba stood first, second and third respectively.
Certificates of merit were awarded to Naved Hamdani from Department of Political Science, University of Jammu and Faisal Arif from Govt. MAM College.
Prof Lalit Magotra, Prof Deepshikha Kotwal and Jagdish Chander were the judges for the event and Dr. Vishwaraksha was the Teacher In-charge for the event.
In Rangoli, Vandita Sharma of GGM Science College stood first; Neha Luna from GCW Parade bagged second spot; Shivali Jamwal from IMFA and Samiksha Sharma from GCW Gandhi Nagar stood third. Certificates of merit were awarded to Sparsh Rajput from Girdhari Lal Dogra Memorial Degree College, Hiranagar, Nirupama Jamwal from Department of Home Science, University of Jammu and Sheetal Kumar from GDC Kathua. Jagpal Singh Bandral, Mukul Magotra and Richa Gupta were the judges and Dr Madhulika Bhagat was the Teacher In-charge for the event.
29 students participated in Flower Arrangement event. Mehak from Govt. MAM College, Anjli Gupta from ICCCR & HRM, JU and Supriya Rajput from MIET stood first, second and third respectively. Certificates of merit were awarded to Urvashi Sharma from ICCCR & HRM, JU and Nikhil Verma from The Law School, JU. Prof. R. N. Gohil, Dr. Raj Kumar and  Rakesh Kumar Sharma were the judges and Prof. Veenu Koul was the Teacher In-Charge for the event.
The events were coordinated by Ifra Kak (Cultural Officer) and Sumeet Sharma (Drama Instructor).
Four events namely Painting, Cartooning, Classical Vocal Solo and Semi-Classical Vocal Solo would be conducted at Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu tomorrow.
