UDHAMPUR, Feb 15: After organising and executing on ground about 725 matches for more than 2200 participants in 13 events i.e. Table Tennis, Volleyball, Badminton, Handball, Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, Cricket, Tug of War and 5 Athletics events with the active support of Civil Administration, Director General of Police, Dr SP Vaid declared Udhampur Olympics 2017 closed in an impressive function, here.
Around 70 officials of the Department of Youth Services and Sports and officials of Udhampur Municipality officiated the matches in various sports disciplines, organised under Civic Action programme of Jammu and Kashmir Police Department.
The DGP was accompanied by Rajesh Yadav, IGP, Director, Sher-I-Kashmir Police Academy Udhampur, Nissar Ahmed Shah, Deputy Inspector General of Police, UR/DKR Range, Neeraj Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, besides Officers of Police, CPMF and Army.
About 800 participants/artists participated in cultural programmes organised on opening and closing ceremony of Udhampur Olympics.
In his welcome address, Dr Shailendra Mishra, SSP Udhampur highlighted the importance of sports activities especially in the lives of the youngsters and said that the main objective of Jammu and Kashmir Police in organising these Sports events is to keep the youth engaged in constructive and productive purposes. This will not only keep them physically fit, but also keep them away from the menace of Drug addiction and other crimes/anti-social activities.
SSP informed that more than 2200 are participating in different categories of 13 games being played during this sports festival which includes 05 athletics events as well.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Vaid lauded the role of District Police Udhampur and civil administration in organising this mega event for the youth of Udhampur area especially the girl children.
He laid stress on organising more and more sports events for the youth to make them physically and mentally fit besides channelizing their energies towards constructive and productive activities rather than their inclination towards anti-social activities.
He also highlighted the various initiatives taken by J&K Police in the promotion of the sports activities and asked the district authorities to continue such initiatives at school and college level so that these children may bring laurels to the state and nation while playing at National and International level. DGP also announced cash reward of Rs. 50000 for the participants of Cultural event, especially Rs. 5000 for Shwetima who preformed Indian Classical Dance Form (Kathak) on the occasion. DGP also distributed trophies and medals among the winners in different events.
