DG Sports inaugurates 24th Federation Cup Tennis Ball Cricket Championship

JAMMU, Mar 28: Director General Youth Services and Sports, Jahangir Mir inaugurated the 24th Federation Cup Tennis Ball Cricket Championship in an impressive, colourful and well attended function at MA Stadium, here today.
While DG Sports was chief guest on the occasion, president Tennis Ball Cricket Federation of India was the guest of honour and prominent among others present on the occasion were BL Sharma, Ravinder Sharma and Shiv Kumar Sharma, Joint Secretary J&K State Sports Council.
Twelve States drawn from across the Country with 20 teams (Men and Women) are participating in the Championship, which is being organised by J&K Tennis Ball Cricket Association, under the aegis of Tennis Ball Cricket Federation of India.
The participating States/UTs included Delhi, Goa, AIIB, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Odisha, Purvanchal, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Vidharbha and Jammu & Kashmir.
Speaking on the occasion, Jahangir Mir lavished praise on the organisers for hosting this mega event in the sports discipline which wins medals for the State and said that the Department of Youth Services and Sports has included many new games in its calendar of activities, keeping in view, the medal prospects for the State.
He said that the State hosted six National level events in 2015 and is aiming at holding more such events in the current year.
Mr Mir said that the State Government is committed to promote sports in nooks and corners of the State, adding that the State witnessed participation of over two lakh fifty thousand student players in various sports disciplines at domestic and national level events in 2015.
He also said that the State may host a national level event in Tennis Ball Cricket this year, keeping in view its medal winning run.
President Tennis Ball Cricket Federation of India, Jatinder Sharma also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the achievements of this game at the National and International scene.
Ravinder Sharma (Prop) and Deepak Sharma from Sharma Sports Jalandhar, the Toss Brand owners have sponsored Toss Balls for the Championship.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir won its opening ties in the both the sections, beating Uttar Pradesh and Uttrakhand in both men and women sections.
Other States which won their matches in men’s section included Jhankhand, which got better of Maharashtra, AIlB outplayed Purnanchal, Goa defeated Tamil Nadu, Odisha drubbed UP, Maharashtra beat Delhi, AIIB prevailed over Uttrakhand and Goa trounced Jharkhand.
In women section, Jharkhand beat Maharashtra, AIIB outclassed Uttrakhand, AIIB defeated UP and Jharkhand beat Purvanchal.
The proceedings of the inaugural function were conducted by BK Tickoo.
The organising committee includes Farooq Ahmed Salroo, Rajesh Dhar, Bal Krishan Tickoo, Mushtaq Ahmed Turkey, Nazir Ahmed Wani, Manjeet Singh, Sadiq Hussain Malik, Madan Mohan and Suresh Singh.
