Deputy Director declares open DLIZ tournaments

JAMMU, Sept 15: Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports, Directorate of Youth Services and Sports J&K, Jitendra Mishra inaugurated the District Level Inter-Zonal (DLIZ) tournaments in an impressive, colourful and well attended function at High School Jammu Cantt, here today.
Players from 14 Zones drawn from the Jammu district are taking part in this 4-day long tournament. The tournament is being held in the disciplines of Tug of War, Volleyball, Kho-Kho, Chess and Carrom in the age groups Under-14, 17 and 19 years.
The Tournaments are being held under the patronage of Gazanffar Ali, Director, YS&S J&K and under the overall supervision of Jitendra Mishra, Deputy Director YS & Sports, while District Youth Services and Sports Officer Jammu, Sukhdev Raj Sharma is supervising the event.
Around 700 boys drawn from various Zones of Jammu district are taking part in the male section of the event for first two days, which will be followed by the girls section for last two days, wherein Headmaster High School Jammu Cantonment, Veena Gupta was the guest of honour.
While speaking on the occasion, Mishra lavished praise on the organisers for holding the event in an befitting manner amid Covid-19 protocol. He said that sports serves for delight, ornament and for agility, adding that the sportspersons are the messengers of peace and prosperity.
“This will be followed by the Division level and then State level events,” added Mishra.
In Volleyball under 19, Zone Khour, RS Pura, Arnia and Dansal scripted win by defeating Bishnah, Marh, Jourian and Jammu respectively, whereas in under-17 years, Satwari, Khour, Bishnah and Jammu trounced Gandhi Nagar, Jourian, RS Pura and Dansal respectively and in under 14 years, Khour, Dansal and Satwari beat Miran Sahib, Arnia and Jourian respectively.
In Tug of War under-19 years (final), Akhnoor defeated Satwari by 2-1 sets, whereas in under 17, Bishnah beat Arnia by 2-1 sets and in under-14, Satwari defeated Akhnoor by 2-0 sets besides in Kho-Kho, Dansal and Gandhi Nagar emerged winners by beating Jammu and Satwari by 9 & 4 points respectively, whereas in under-14, Dansal beat Arnia by 2 points.
In Chess, Arnia and Bhalwal beat Chowki Choura and Bishnah in under-14, whereas in under-17, Gandhi Nagar beat Akhnoor. In Carrom under-14, Dansal beat Bishanh and Miran Sahib beat Satwari in first and 2nd semi-finals.
