Deputy CM terms sportspersons as ambassadors of peace, harmony

JAMMU, Oct 26: Describing sportsperson as ambassadors of peace and harmony, Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh advised them to adopt true spirit of sportsmanship to win hearts of people apart from winning games.
Deputy Chief Minister said this while speaking on the concluding day of The Jagruk Hindustani Premier Cricket League (JHPCL), which was organized by the Western Command of the Indian Army to draw the ever vigil and alert border youth or “Jagruk Hindustani” towards the appealing T20 format of cricket.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Chief Minister said the Government is committed to promote sports activities and develop sports infrastructure in the State. He said that various measures are being taken up in this regard to harness the skill and potential of young players to the optimum. He said that by organizing such sports events the sports talent of States’ youth would further be honed up enabling them to compete at National and International levels. He said by encouraging and organizing sports activities the talent of the youth would get properly channelized for better sportsmanship and comradre.
Dr. Singh also lauded the role of Army for safeguarding the country’s border and supporting the civilian population in several developmental and Welfare Programme.
Out of the 44 teams that participated in the sub regional level matches, six teams (super six) took part in the final league to decide the winner.
The final was played between Damana Jaguars and R S Pura Arsenals. The match was won by Damana Jaguars by  12 runs. Tushar Gupta of Damana Jaguars was declared as man of the match.
For astounding and constant performance throughout the super six league, Ateer Sahni from team Damana Jaguars was aptly adjudged as the  “Man of the Series”.
The closing ceremony of JHPCL was a glittering event. Lt. Gen K J Singh, AVSM (Bar), GOC-in-C Western Command graced the occasion and during his address, offered words of encouragement to the budding sportspersons while acknowledging and appreciating the contribution of “Jagruk Hindustanis” for a safer nation.
Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh presented the championship trophy to the winning team.
The event witnessed the attendance of many dignitaries both from the armed forces and from the civil administration including Lt Gen Rajeev Tewari, GOC Rising Star Corps, Maj Gen Devesh Agnihotri, GOC Gurj Division and Maj Gen Sanjeev Narain, GOC Tiger Division and Jugal Kishore, MP Jammu.
The players and the spectators who witnessed the entire event over a period of past few days were highly appreciative of the efforts made by the Western Command of the Indian Army in seeking to bond with the young generation of Jammu and motivate them to stay vigilant as “Jagruk Hindustanis” who are ever ready to foil the designs of the anti-national elements.
