JAMMU, Mar 17: It is an amazing to watch government employees, who, otherwise remain busy in their routine works, performing well in sporting events. Encouraging employees for more and more participation in sports activities is the need of the hour as sports and games serve for delight, for ornament and for agility.
This was stated by Hoveyda Abbas, Accountant General, J&K while interacting with the players during the final match of the ongoing T20 Cricket Tournament, organized by the Sports Committee of the Central Government Employees Welfare Coordination Committee (CGEWCC) at GGM Science College Hostel ground, here today.
While lavishing praise on the organizers for holding a sports extravaganza for Central Government employees in Jammu, Mr Hoveyda said that it is the policy of the Government of India to promote sports and provide ample time for sports activities to the sportspersons working in various departments, adding that the employees appointed on outstanding sports background in AGs Offices are given proper time for play and practice.
The Accountant General further said that the performance of the employees in playgrounds and in the offices, are two sides of the same coin, adding that it is the job of these employees to maintain decorum at both places.
Mr Hoveyda was accompanied by Sham Lal Tangotra, Chairman Sports Committee CGEWCC Jammu and Dr Ajay Prakash Gupta, General Secretary IIIM and Executive Member CGEWCC.
Ashwani Gupta, former First Class Cricketer and veteran of many battles, while speaking on the occasion, said that the sportspersons appointed in AGs Office feel honoured to work under present Accountant General, J&K as he pats and encourages them off and on.
Earlier, in the summit clash, Accountant General (AG) Jammu defeated Survey of India (SoI) by a big margin of 93 runs.
Winning the toss and batting first, AG Jammu scored a formidable total of 183 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 4 wickets in the process. Vimarsh Kaw top scored with magnificent 83 runs, studded with 8 boundaries and 2 sixes, while Bandeep Singh scored brilliant 76 runs with the help of 6 fours and 3 sixes. Aditya Partap Singh chipped in with unbeaten 14 runs. For SoI, Sanjeev Kumar took 3 wickets, while Vinod Raina claimed one wicket.
In reply, SoI bundled out for 90 runs in 16.5 overs, thus lost the match by a big margin of 93 runs. Subash top scored with 23 runs, while Shashi Jamwal and Sanjeev Kumar contributed unbeaten 17 and 9 runs to the total respectively. Sahil Bhalwal was the pick of the bowlers for AG Jammu, who scalped 4 important wickets, while Ravi Kant bagged 3 wickets. Rahil Singh also took 2 wickets and Anoop Magotra claimed one. Vimarsh Kaw was declared as man of the match.
The match was officiated by Mahesh Kumar and Atul Sharma as umpires, while Vijay Kumar was the scorer.
