JAMMU, Feb 24: Splendid batting display by Shubham Singh Pundir, in form Jatin Wadhawan and Irfan Pathan went in vain as Jammu and Kashmir bowlers failed to stop Delhi from clinching a thrilling victory in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy match at Vijayawada.
Earlier, put into bat, J&K scored a big total of 189 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 7 wickets in the process. Shubham Singh Pundir played a brilliant innings of 68 runs off 44 balls, studded with 7 fours and 3 sixes, while explosive Jatin Wadhawan once again slammed superb half-century (57 off 33 balls) with the help of 7 fours and 2 sixes. Irfan Pathan contributed 26 off 13 balls including 3 sixes, while skipper Parvez Rasool contributed 17 off 7 balls with 2 sixes. From Delhi, Subodh Bhati took 3 wickets, while Ishant Sharma, Navdeep Saini and Pawan Negi claimed one wicket each.
In reply, Delhi reached the target on the penultimate ball of the match by losing 6 wickets to win the match by 4 wickets. Lalit Yadav scored unbeaten 47 off 28 balls, studded with 7 fours and one six, while Anuj Rawat, Hiten Dalal and Pawan Negi contributed 45, 32 and unbeaten 15 runs to the total respectively. From J&K, Irfan Pathan, Rasikh Salam, Mujtaba Yousuf and Waseem Raza claimed one wicket each but all of them were expensive, while skipper Rasool bowled an economical spell of 4 overs conceding just 17 runs.
With this victory, Delhi earned 4 points, while J&K failed to secure any point.
J&K will play against Andhra Pradesh tomorrow, which will be live telecast on Star Sports from 1:30 pm onwards.
